The colossal new cityhall was built beginning this century in the magnificent style of the Wilhelminia epoque. The dome up to the gold-plated top is 97,37 meters high. A beveled elevator takes you up to the viewer platform.

In 1852 the opera house was opened and belongs to most beautiful German theater buildings in its neoclassic style. During wartime almost completely destroyed – later reconstructed – today after several modifications it is the most famous of the national operas of Lower Saxony with over 1500 seats. Culture enthusiasts love to visit the opera house in the evening or enjoy the famous Varietè Theater GOP with a new composition of comedy, artistry, magic tricks and juggling.
